Because it’s true these are the sad facts of life now for so many patients at so many practices it has no personal relation to any doctor, it’s just a general view of a long time patient. Every thing has now been taken over by computers, i pads and telephone calls
What’s happened to the personnel touch? I don’t think many people find talking to there doctor by telephone is the same as a face to face talk. I may be wrong but I don’t think so sadly. If you no longer see patients as you did pre covid pandemic then what are you doing now?.
Since the COVID pandemic things have certainly changed for the worst, seeing a doctor is virtually impossible and phoning in to get an appointment can take so much time. It’s to much like pot luck now. I have lost so much faith in the practice, as an example I had a couple of heart attacks in January this year and had to have a stent fitted in Basildon and was later referred to Ambrose Avenue Practise to have a Heart Monitor fitted it was some 7-8 months later at the appointment the doctor decided not to fit it and I was referred back to Colchester General for which I am still waiting to hear from its now October. The general hospital is at full stretch and sometimes overrun, why? Because so many people up there are no longer able to see a GP. So I ask the question, if they are not seeing patents like before then what are they doing all day.
Waited over over one hour and a half to speak to reception and that was phoning at the recommended time ie after 11am on a weekday. Having successfully navigated the rather lengthy push button menu I joined at 13th in the queue to speak with reception. During the wait I was periodically reassured that my call would be answered by the next available operator, sadly not. I eventually made number one in the queue, great. This optimism was replaced with a sinking feeling I had been abandoned over the surgery lunchtime ‘training’ break. I held the number one slot for over 30 minutes before being connected to reception at 13.34hrs.
Having worked in Primary care for many years I am not convinced the surgery lines need to close at lunch time for staff training EVERY weekday. In other areas in Essex this lunchtime line closure isn’t allowed.
I joined this practice a few months ago and they have been fantastic. Very helpful and friendly staff, who will always go the ‘extra mile’. Really proactive helping with issues for my elderly parents. Can’t praise them enough.
This new appointment system is in transition but I called 8 times after 9am and all I got was a busy beep it took me half an hour but on my 9th call I got into the queue, waited around 15 minutes on hold before getting through. Called on a Thursday, got an appointment with the nurse Tuesday. The wait was longer on the phone but that's the quickest I've ever got an appointment with this surgery. Seems to be on the up and up
